Talent abounds in this remarkable Texas blues band.  The guitarist and lead vocalist is Jim "Blind Lemon Pie" Cobb-  spanning the greats like T-Bone Walker, Jimmy Witherspoon and Freddie King in guitar and vocal prowess.  Next up is Rick "SaxMan" Sims, who plays with the color and excitement of King Curtis and Boots Randolph, and who tends to leap off the stage into the crowd, serenading patrons individually.  Rodney "Gizmo" Beal, on the bass guitar, is steady as a rock like Willie Dixon, and adds his own sweet vocal harmonies and the occasional lead vocal himself.  Sylvia Carrell sprinkles percussion throughout, and sings from the heart- growling like KoKo Taylor and emoting like Etta James, spanning a wide range of styles before the night’s over.  All the band members are lucky enough to work within the parameters of the solid grooves and superb timing of Val Nail on drums- a young man who’s a ‘‘show” all by himself.

You can't get enough of this group.  That's probably why they won The Texarkana Blues Society sponsorship to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis coming up January 31st  through February 2nd

Come see ‘em; you won’t be disappointed.

Diddley Squat's Upcoming Events

The 3 nights originally scheduled for Diddley Squat in Seaside, Florida this weekend have been postponed till Oct. 3rd – 5th at Bud & Alley’s.  The unpredictable route of Tropical Storm Fay is, of course, the cause of the cancellation. Guess we’ll have to wait a while longer to sample that 5-star cuisine. www.budandalleys.com

Last week in Marietta, Georgia, they met some wonderful representatives of the Atlanta Blues Society at Darwin’s, and the employees there were great.  Thanks, Ernie, for all your kind assistance and great sense of humor!  www.darwinsblues.com

At The Shed Barbeque & blues in Gulfport, Mississippi they had a very personable & professional soundman who went by the nickname of “Tex”.  Just so happened he’d played harp with Bo Diddley, and he got up and kicked some booty with them before the night was over. Besides all that, he was FULL of musician jokes and kept them laughing all evening.  Thanks, Tex, for a wonderful evening.

The next night, at The Shed in Ocean Springs, Miss., they encountered the most enthusiastic and sweetest crowd since Crossroads Coffeehouse & Music Co.  in Winnsboro, Tx.  What a FUN BUNCH OF FOLKS!  Mr. Jimmy- keep leadin’ those ladies to the dance floor!

----And without a doubt, the most luscious baby-back ribs and pulled pork we’ve ever encountered.  If you’re ever in the Ocean Springs area, do yourself a favor and try their barbeque.  You will NOT be sorry.  www.theshedbbq.com
